Synopsis (lazy summary): Older brother (Kaede) is an omega in a family of alphas. He is also the alpha listener’s fated pair. The younger brother (Goushi) is an alpha and wildly in love with listen as well. He resents his older brother (Kaede) because he can never be with you because he’s an alpha but his brother can. Instead of getting over himself he decides to give the listener some super wacky medication that turns the listener into an omega. This is the point where the story diverges between the two CDs. Does the listener stay with her omega lover and spend the rest of her heats in pain? Or does the listener stay with the alpha who ruined her dream?
First impression: An unbelievably cute and needy boyfriend within this really dark story. This CD is the perfect balance of smut and story because you get to see the listener and Kaede being domestic together but you also get to see them struggle to stay together at the end. This CD successfully shows that the relationship between listener and Kaede wasn’t just about being fated pairs – they were actually in love with each other. I’m honestly glad that this CD didn’t just give us one fight and then they fast forward to a happy end. The scenario writer took time to really show that they will never be how they were before. Listener will spend the rest of their life in pain because they don’t have an alpha to spend heats with. Kaede will spend the rest of his life in pain, emotionally and physically, because he has to watch the love of his life in pain.
Final impressions (after multiple listens): Probably one of my favorite Msub portrayals. I also think the VA did a phenomenal job showing the specific type of neediness that omegaverse fans expect from omegas. I liked the dynamic so much that it almost felt like it wasn’t enough. I just wanted the whole CD to be alpha!listner x omega!Kaede fluff. It’s two tracks of fluff and then angst the rest of the way. I enjoyed how messy the story got but left unsatisfied. Honestly towards the end of the CD and also the toukuten feels like one long edging session. That’s probably just a matter of taste though. Part of me hopes that this series eventually gets a prequel. I want to better understand the relationship between the two brothers. It’s not needed to enjoy this series but I feel like there was more there that could have been explored.
Would I recommend it?: Yes, but only to someone who likes dark themes such as non-con. This CD is actually the tame one of the two. The end is painful but most of the CD is Kaede regretting all his choices and sex. I say you have to like dark themes because I recommend listening to both CDs and the other CD is much darker than this. I also recommend listening to this CD first and then the younger brother’s CD to get the whole story. I think this CD is great for people who already are familiar with omegaverse and are just looking for a scenario where the listener isn’t an omega and gets to be dominant, even if just for a while. I really love the scenes where we get to see Kaede be all needy for listener too. I think the VA did a really good job embodying an omega.
